bookish in portland: three nights and airfare

You know how things are supposed to happen in three’s? Lately they’ve been happening to me in two’s. Two people recently offered to fix me up with people, on the same day, with no prompting whatsoever from me. This has not happened to me since I became single seven years ago.

Then two women who live in my building told me, in the span of two days, that I was doing a fine job of raising my son. It was quite touching, in general but especially because I’m a single mom; no one had gone out of their way to say that to me lately.

Then, this funny business with books. Ms. Shoes, the woman who inspired my sweeps quest, emailed me an amusing A.P. story yesterday about a poll on The Bookseller for the oddest book title of the year. Look at this list! I am partial to The Stray Shopping Cars of Eastern North America, though I think the environmental habits of the Third Reich might clinch it.

- Tattooed Mountain Women and Spoon Boxes of Daghestan
- How Green Were the Nazis?
- D. Di Mascio's Delicious Ice Cream: D. Di Mascio of Coventry, An Ice Cream Company of Repute, with an Interesting and Varied Fleet of Ice Cream Vans
- The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification
- Proceedings of the Eighteenth International Seaweed Symposium
- Better Never To Have Been: The Harm of Coming Into Existence

Today I Googled Win a Trip 2007 and found a sweeps sponsored by Powell’s for a trip to Portland. So, another books thing. See what I mean? Things are happening in two’s. Plus, I entered the same sweeps last year. Another two! Read about that HERE. Fun!
